Like many people, we have noticed that fuel prices are increasing, and that this is a one direction trip. There is talk of powering our cars with wind, sun, fairy dust, and even electricity.
However, a range of manufacturers are responding in a way that is affordable and relevant this afternoon. Because I am unlikely to spend masses more on an electric car, knowing it will not get me to my business meeting next week.
But this kind of response, from Citroen, makes sense. It makes sense this afternoon. It adds to the important, very high fuel efficiency, but otherwise conventional cars that are appearing on the market.
OK. To the chase. 83mpg. That is the number being claimed for this car. For the combined cycle economy.
Now of course, there are a bunch of other statistics for this car, in which we are all supposed to be interested. Like 87g/km of carbony stuff. Which is low.
The new model uses the innovative e-HDi micro hybrid Stop and Start technology. It has 68bhp.
But stop me. 83mpg. For many people, this would halve their fuel bill. And I could get to my business meeting. And back. And probably not need to refuel anywhere on the trip. In fact, definitely not need to. And still have fuel for the next day's commute. And so on.
I think models like this, whilst we play with alternative fuel ideas, are a superb piece of progress.
