Subaru have unveiled the production BRZ sports coupe at the Tokyo Motor Show.

At the Tokyo Motor show Subaru have given us our first official sighting of the BRZ Sports Couple. Packing 200 PS in a car that tips the scales at just 1220kg, this looks set to be a quick drive.

This car is born from a joint engineering venture with Toyota - led by Subaru. Design to give a sensational and engaging driving experience, the engineering focus was on the lowest possible centre of gravity.

The familiar Subaru Boxer engine has a powertrain arrangement designed to position the engine lower than ever  before. However, the 2.0 litre engine is exclusive to the BRZ.  Developing jointly with Toyota has allowed the Toyota D-4S direct injection and port injection to be used in this car, bringing more efficiency.

The transmission was engineered for high levels of feel and response from the gear shift. Available in 6 speed manual, or 6 speed automatic, the automatic has an override mode operated by steering wheel paddles.

Subaru has considerable track record in the affordable fast car market, and this looks set to continue that reputation when it hits the showrooms in July 2012
